Dan Kovacek is a registered professional engineer in British Columbia with 18 years experience in hydrology, water-resource assessment, and detailed design of hydraulic structures. His current consulting practice provides technical support in areas such as hydrological analysis, flood hazard assessment, and hydropower systems monitoring and performance analysis. He has carried out large-scale environmental monitoring programs, with a focus on interpreting hydrometric data, automating quality review, evaluating risks related to water availability and extreme events, and supporting project decision-making with clear technical analysis.

Dan continues to be involved in academia. He has taught classes in run-of-river hydropower design fundamentals at BCIT and engineering hydrology at UBC. Dan is currently a PhD candidate in hydrotechnical engineering at UBC, focusing on large-sample hydrology and methods for characterizing streamflow in data-limited regions. His work examines how information from monitored catchments can be used to better understand hydrological behaviour elsewhere, with applications to network design and long-term water-resource assessment.
